Forest School in Mareil Marly is a truly international school, welcoming children from around the world and making the most of its unique location right by the beautiful forest area of the “Forêt Domaniale de Marly le Roi”.

Mission and Ethos

The school recognizes that each child is unique and has strengths and natural abilities and other areas where they need to grow. Our aim is make learning fun and enjoyable, but also to encourage self-confidence. We aim to recognise each child’s individual talents. Every child needs to feel respected, but at the same time, we encourage them to know how and when to take risks.

Curriculum and Learning

Forest School welcomes pupils from 2-10 years (end of Primary), with no birthday cut off date, and follows both the International Primary Curriculum as well as the English National Curriculum. All general teaching is in the English language. We offer small class sizes and highly qualified Special Needs assistance if required.

Classes are multi-level with one teacher and at least one or more teaching assistants for the younger classes. Outdoor learning plays a very important part in our curriculum with daily trips to the Forest to climb, run, jump and sometimes bike though this wonderful environment.

French is taught as a Foreign Language in a fun and interactive way. The children play games, sing, listen to stories, role-play and even perform in front of their friends and family. An extended French programme is also offered for those pupils whose parents wish them to join the French system on leaving primary school.

Life at FIS

The children are encouraged to eat healthily at lunchtimes and to eat well-balanced meals. Fruit snacks are also offered during the day.

Special events are organized so that the children are encouraged to learn about traditions of the different countries of their fellow pupils.

This warm community helps children and their parents to feel at home quickly, helping them to make friends. The teachers and staff are truly dedicated to making the school day a fun and enriching experience.
